Western Hospitality
Western hospitality was another essential characteristic found on Dude Ranches. Dude Ranches were separated from the rapid race to modern society. It was anchored in cowboy, horse, and ranch family. Characteristics that the guests wanted to see and experience. An important feature on a Dude Ranch is the ability to wind the clock back and slow it down, showing a more simplistic version of life. In the early days, Dude Ranchers refused electricity and also hid telephones. The atmosphere was the greatest asset the ranch could have and it was not to be dismantled by modern society. Ranchers wanted to give guest a real past time experience. Dude Ranches also offered guests a warm embrace upon arrival and the sense they were a part of the family. This was an important aspect of the Dude Ranch, to show strong family bonds such as a strong father figure that provides and protects for his family. The wife also had an important role as gracious host providing a homey atmosphere for the guests. Dude Ranches typically charge a flat rate that included all accommodations. Guests would expect clean and tidy rooms with the magic of a women's touch, home cooked meals and plenty of it, and breathtaking experiences such as horseback riding and beautiful scenery. The business of Dude Ranching was not to make a business in the home, but to make a business of the home.
